In beauty magazines we can find different tips on how to take care of our skin during fall or winter time. But most of them are missing one important tip. Permanent hair removal. In our opinion, the time is just perfect to start thinking about removing unwanted hair and make your first appointment. Unwanted and excessive hair is every woman’s nightmare (especially for those coping with PCOS). Either you were considering facial hair removal, leg and bikini area or any other, the time is just right. And why is that, we need to understand how laser hair removal works.
HOW LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORKS?
Nowadays, laser hair removal is one of the most common skin treatments. How laser detects the hair? Simple, laser beams highly concentrated light into the follicles. The pigment in follicles absorbs the light and that is how the hair is destroyed. Pale skin and dark hair is the perfect combination for most lasers, but FC Skin Solution utilizes state-of-the-art equipment which is safe on patients with darker skin, too.
Another very important thing: effective laser hair removal is linked to a hair growth cycle. Explaining the hair’s growth stages will help you understand better how laser hair removal works.
Hairs revolves through three phases of growth:
- ANAGEN or the growth phase. At this stage the hair begins to grow and the bulb is closest to the surface of the skin. The laser aims for papilla, the knob-like vascular indentation on which the bulb fits, destroys it and prevents the new growth. This stage is ideal for laser hair removal.
- CATAGEN or the regression phase. During this stage the lower part of hair stops growing and hair begins to shed. The treatment still can be done because the follicle will produce another hair, but it won’t be highly effective.
- TELOGEN or the resting phase. This means the hair bulb is not present and the laser treatment cannot be done. It might seem like the hair is still growing, but it is actually pushed out of the follicle by new anagen growing hair.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO START WITH LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
In order to have bikini-worthy legs, your first laser procedure should be scheduled at least before winter. First of all, all of the appointments need to be accommodated to the hair’s growth cycle. It takes approximately 6 treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart, to achieve significant results. FC Skin Solution team always advise a client to stick to a schedule and not to skip a treatment, because the hair will enter the next stage and the procedure won’t be as effective. Second, prior and after the procedure you should avoid sun exposure. It makes laser hair removal less effective and sometimes minor complications might occur.
